Pinnacol Wins 2009 CBCA Business for the Arts Workspace Award

DENVER, March 6, 2010 - Pinnacol Assurance, Colorado’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance, received the Workspace Award from the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts (CBCA) at the 22nd annual CBCA Business for the Arts Awards luncheon at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The award pays tribute to well-designed workspaces that communicate corporate mission and identity to employees, clients, and the community.

According to Ken Ross, Pinnacol president and CEO, integrating art into the work environment is part of Pinnacol’s business strategy. “Pinnacol has created a workspace that fosters employee inventiveness and innovation. The abundance of artwork throughout our building encourages employees to think freely when solving problems. That translates into greater productivity, satisfied customers, and helps create a financially stable company.”

Pinnacol, which is located in Denver’s Lowry neighborhood, is home to over 100 pieces of art, 95 percent of which are from Colorado artists. The collection illustrates the company’s identity, history, and vision as well as the industries it serves. The building’s designers sought to bring the outdoors inside by using an abundance of natural light, creating a soothing environment and offering spectacular views of the Front Range.

Ross noted, “The Workspace Award honors exceptional work environments that advance business objectives. We are in an industry that is not known for its creativity so we are especially proud that CBCA believes the setting we have created for our employees and stakeholders is worthy of recognition.”

The distinguished judging panel for the 2009 Business for the Arts Awards included:

  • Ashara Ekundayo, Founder & Executive Director, Pan African Arts Society & Café Nuba
  • Mariner Kemper, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, UMB Bank Colorado
  • Adam Lerner, Executive Director, The Laboratory of Art + Ideas
  • Donna Lynne, Regional President, Kaiser Permanente Colorado
  • William Murane, Of Counsel, Holland & Hart

CBCA is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that serves as a catalyst for Colorado’s business community to leverage the arts for economic vitality.
