Pinnacol Assurance Honored for Community Service by Global Organization

Pinnacol is Among Five Companies Honored by Points of Light Institute

DENVER, June 22, 2009 - Pinnacol Assurance is being honored by the Points of Light Institute with the 2009 Corporate Engagement Award of Excellence. The award, one of the oldest and most prestigious in its field, recognizes a business’s overall employee/retiree volunteer effort.

Pinnacol is being honored alongside the corporate giants Capital One, Deloitte LLP, Eli Lilly and Salesforce. The other honorees have national and international operations, setting Pinnacol apart as the only company serving a single state.

“We serve Colorado businesses and their injured workers on a day-to-day basis, but we also serve our community,” said Ken Ross, president and CEO of Pinnacol Assurance. “Being honored alongside these national and international companies is a proud and humbling moment for our organization. We encourage and support our employees’ involvement in activities that enhance the quality of life in the Colorado communities we serve. This award acknowledges that companies don’t have to have a large workforce to have a large impact.”

In 2008, 80 percent of Pinnacol employees volunteered through Pinnacol in Action, the company’s community involvement program. They spent 5,121 hours in volunteer activities such as youth mentoring and education, human services programs, community beautification and promoting health awareness.

Employees receive 12 hours of paid time off each year to participate in the program. In April, Pinnacol in Action partner, Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado, recognized Pinnacol with the annual Top Company Award, given each year to the organization whose support and leadership of Big Brothers Big Sisters is deemed extraordinary.
