Pinnacol in Action Employee Volunteer Program
In 2009, 586 employees (93 percent of our total workforce) gave 5,442 hours of community service to 75 charities.  Among other achievements, our employee volunteers:

  • Collected 4,200 pounds of food over a four-week period for the Volunteers of America pantry.
  • Delivered more than 1,800 hot meals on our designated Meals on Wheels weekday route.
  • Spent 145 hours picking up trash and debris along Lowry Boulevard, as part of our Adopt-A-Spot program.
  • Assisted 450 community members in getting low-cost or free health screens at our very own 9Health Fair site.
  • Donated more than 300 pints of blood over the year.
  • Acted as a mentor or friend, teacher, coach, or cheerleader to hundreds of kids in need through Big Brothers Big Sisters (317 hours of service), Junior Achievement (256 hours) and National Sports Center for the Disabled (507 hours).

Employee Giving

  • Employees pledged $39,017 to the Mile High United Way in 2009.
  • Pinnacol Assurance matched these pledges, increasing our giving to $78,034.

Pinnacol Foundation

  • The scholarship program awarded $251,250 to 86 children of Colorado workers disabled or killed in work-related accidents.
  • Since 2000, the Pinnacol Foundation has given more than $1 million to students.

Other Community Focused Programs

  • Our employee-driven Green Team recycled 262,244 pounds of materials in 2009.
  • Pinnacol Assurance provided job-sharing opportunities to four low-income students from Arrupe Jesuit High School.  The students’ “paychecks” are donated to help pay their tuition.
