About Pinnacol Assurance
Did the legislation passed in 2002 change Pinnacol Assurance's purpose/mission?
In June 2002, Colorado Governor Bill Owens signed House Bill 02-1135 enabling Pinnacol Assurance to continue operating as the assured provider of workers' compensation insurance as it has for nearly a century. Although our mission has not changed, the following changes are now in effect:

  • Our name is officially "Pinnacol Assurance."
  • Our assets belong to the company for the benefit of injured workers and their dependents.
  • The state cannot utilize our assets for any other purpose.
  • Upon reaching our surplus goal, our board of directors will oversee our investments, and we will no longer have governmental immunity.
  • Our board of directors has expanded to nine members.
