Working with Pinnacol

Pinnacol Assurance is the only local insurance company that specializes in workers' compensation. Better yet, when you deal with Pinnacol, you're talking to someone right here in Colorado, not across the country or half way around the world. Our two offices are located in Denver and Grand Junction.

Of the thousands of injured workers we help each year, the best partnerships are those in which both parties — Pinnacol and the injured employee — contribute to a smooth working relationship. Here are the building blocks of a great workers' comp partnership:

Pinnacol Partnership Tips
What You Can Expect From Us: What We Need From You:

Friendly, personal service from all Pinnacol staff.

A point person (claims representative or nurse case manager) who will guide you through the claims, medical care, and recovery processes.

Frequent, ongoing communication between Pinnacol, you, your doctor, and your employer.

A choice of medical providers who specialize in the treatment of workplace injuries and illnesses. These doctors are pre-screened by Pinnacol and designated by your employer.

Upon acceptance of your claim, payment of reasonable, necessary, and related medical expenses, as well as wage-replacement benefits if you miss more than three days (or shifts) of work.

Our commitment to getting you back on the job through return-to-work programs and modified duty.

Additional compensation for more serious injuries, such as disfigurement, permanent impairment, or permanent total disability. The amount and duration of these payments are specified under the Workers' Compensation Act.

For job-related fatalities, payment of death benefits to dependents and spouses as specified under the Workers' Compensation Act.

Take every reasonable precaution to keep yourself and others safe on the job.

Follow your employer's safety rules and use protective equipment, devices, and clothing. (Willful failure to follow safety rules or use safety devices could reduce your wage-replacement and permanent-impairment benefits by up to 50 percent.)

Report all injuries to your employer immediately. You have four days to provide notification in writing, but the sooner you report the injury, the sooner we can help.

Be completely forthcoming about the circumstances and events leading up to your injury or illness.

Seek treatment from a designated medical provider on your employer's approved list.

Comply with your physician’s treatment protocol. Take an active role in the restoration of your health.

Maintain open lines of communications with your Pinnacol representative and employer. Call us or your employer whenever you have a question or concern.

Obtain preauthorization from Pinnacol for hospitalizations and certain treatments and procedures. Your claims representative or nurse case manager will explain these in more detail.

Take an active role in any return-to-work program developed by your employer and Pinnacol. (Failure to do so could result in the loss of wage-replacement benefits.)
