2011: A Year in Review

Corporate News

December 2011
2011 has been the year of cutting-edge innovation for Pinnacol Assurance and our medical operations team.

The team’s accomplishments include:

- Implementing our Clinic Performance Initiative (CPI), which gives policyholders a provider rating system in areas such as clinic comfort, cleanliness and administrative services (e.g., timely submission of medical records, thoroughness of addressing modified duty). Out of more than 220 primary care provider (PCP) clinics, six clinics were awarded the coveted five-star rating.

- Transforming Provider Pulse from a quarterly hardcopy publication to a monthly electronic version, which subsequently was awarded the Colorado Healthcare Communicators’ (CHC) Bronze Leaf Award in the “Electronic Newsletters” category.

- Hosting the SelectNet Conference “New Visions for Chronic Pain: Managing the Chronic Pain Patient.” More than 100 SelectNet members and physicians attended the event held at the Mount Vernon Event Center in Golden, Colo. A variety of topics, including medical marijuana and complex regional pain syndrome, were presented by world-renowned speakers, with injured worker and respondent attorneys providing legal perspectives throughout the day.

All of this occurred while Pinnacol as a company:

- Created and launched a new injured worker website that provides information to help them understand and navigate the workers' compensation process. Additionally, it allows injured workers to access personal claims information and medical information, including bills, records and correspondence from providers. They will also have the ability to monitor benefit check information, including payment details and the scheduled mailing date of their next check

- Continued to partner with Trotter Wellness and Integrated Benefits Institute (IBI) in seeking ways to add value to our customers through Health Risk Management (HRM), a worksite based wellness program specifically adapted to the workers’ compensation environment which helps employees identify and reduce specific health risk factors through healthier lifestyle choices. Nearly 30,000 lives have been signed up to participate since it’s inception in late 2010.

In addition, Pinnacol Foundation, created by Pinnacol in 2000, nearly doubled the amount of scholarships given, awarding $579,000 in scholarships to 136 students for the 2011-2012 school year. These scholarships are awarded to the children of Colorado workers who were killed or seriously injured in work-related accidents, regardless of insurance carrier. The average scholarship awarded by the Pinnacol Foundation is $5,000 for one year and may be used at any accredited institution of higher learning for vocational training, undergraduate or graduate degrees.

Pinnacol would like to sincerely thank all of our SelectNet providers for your compassionate and diligent care of our injured workers. You are critical to our success. Happy holidays, and have a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
