Pinnacol Assurance is pleased to announce an opportunity to join our team in the capacity of medical director. The person in this position is responsible for developing and maintaining quality medical management strategies and network programs. Reporting to Bonnie Cahoon, director of medical operations, this position requires high-level clinical expertise and direction to support appropriate utilization management activity within the SelectNet network.

The medical director serves as a medical authority on behalf of Pinnacol and acts as a liaison to the medical, legal, and regulatory communities, as well as to the public in general. The work includes formulation and communication of Pinnacol’s position in areas of standards of care and practice, emerging technologies, and experimental and/or investigational diagnostics and treatments.

Work of this nature requires comprehensive knowledge of managed-care processes and systems, as well as thorough knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, industry regulations, licensing, and accreditation issues. It also requires current unrestricted Colorado Board of Medical Examiners License (M.D. or D.O.), current State of Colorado Division of Workers’ Compensation Level II Physician Accreditation, and American Board of Medical Specialties or American Osteopathic Association board certification in a specialty related to clinical care of injured patients. A master’s degree in business, health information, or other related field is a plus. Candidates must have a minimum of five years clinical experience with at least two years in a supervisory or medical director position, which includes experience in administration of insurance and/or managed care programs.
