Circle of Safety

In 2008, Pinnacol Assurance created the Circle of Safety Award. This prestigious award was created to recognize policyholders for their exceptional risk management in four areas – safety, loss prevention, financial management and claims management. The award’s name reflects the importance of people working together: the policyholder, agents and Pinnacol employees. In order to be nominated, organizations have to meet the award criteria for a specified four-year period.

The Circle of Safety Award criteria includes:

  • Pinnacol policyholder for at least four consecutive years
  • .85 or less Experience Modification Rating for each policy period
  • 80 percent or more of all claims reported within 48 hours (combined 4-year history)
  • Four-year combined loss ratio of 25 percent or less
  • Designated two medical providers each year
  • Two or less notices of cancellation each year
  • No non-compliant audits
  • Must currently hold the State of Colorado’s Cost Containment Certification
  • No fatalities
  • Must currently have an approved return-to-work program
