During the 2014 Colorado Legislative Session, state lawmakers passed House Bill 1383, which requires employers to increase the number of medical providers they designate to treat their injured workers from two to four. At least one of the four providers must come from a distinct location and owner. The new law goes into effect April 1, 2015.

We encourage employers to select providers that will best suit your organization’s unique needs. Consider visiting potential providers, and once you’ve designated them, help them understand your workplace and the types of injuries your employees might experience.

While designating four providers is an important step, that isn’t all you need to do to be compliant with the law. You will still need to provide a letter to your employee with the names and contact information of your four providers at the time of injury.
