The Denver Post recently named Pinnacol Assurance as the top large employer in Colorado, making it the fifth consecutive year we earned a spot on the list of top companies to work for.

The journey to no. 1

The Denver Post awards its ranking based on feedback from employees via an anonymous survey run by a third-party technology partner, Energage LLC.

We are proud to receive this vote of confidence from our employees. Their hard work and dedication to making a difference is the backbone of Pinnacol’s success.

"This honor further motivates us as we continue to work to build a more agile, more inclusive and more customer-centric organization for our team, Colorado's businesses, and workers." said Pinnacol President and CEO Phil Kalin.

Here are just a few of the reasons why our employees made us No. 1 in 2021.

Supporting remote workers

Transition to a fully remote workplace:

During the pandemic, Pinnacol's employees quickly adapted. With the infrastructure already in place, we pivoted to a fully remote environment to help keep our workers safe and support our communities and clients in Colorado.

Pinnacol also focused on maintaining morale while encouraging safety, even during the toughest times.

Additional paid time off (PTO) allotments:

Employees enjoyed additional PTO in 2020 and 2021 for mental health days and time to relax and rejuvenate.

Benefitting virtually

We also enhanced our virtual benefits, providing virtual wellness classes, improved access to employee resources, and digital support networks.

Socially distanced swag

To routinely show gratitude to our dedicated employees, we sent surprise swag to them over the duration of the pandemic.

Some of the gifts include:

  • Sweets from local businesses
  • Sweatshirts
  • Office supplies
  • Mugs
  • Blankets
  • Beanies

Plus, to celebrate a year of successful remote work and further boost morale, we made every team member custom shirts with successful stats celebrating employees.

Community involvement and investment

Playing an active role in the community is part of Pinnacol's vision "to "lead a revolution in caring."

It starts right here in Colorado, where being a Force for Good and giving back to the local community are key to our mission.

Being a force for good during COVID-19

With so many local small businesses and communities struggling in the face of COVID-19, Pinnacol raised nearly $2.5 million for recovery and relief efforts.

Using our COVID microsite as a community platform, we also lifted up local businesses impacted by the pandemic by highlighting and sharing the stories.

Pinnacol awarded $465,150 in grants to programs in Colorado dedicated to protecting the health and safety of workers, helping injured employees get back to work, and building a robust business climate.

Through the Pinnacol Foundation, 95 students received over $452,820 in scholarships to help further their education.

What’s more? In 2020, our employees also stepped up, raising over $303,420 and collectively volunteering over 500 hours — including donating meals to essential workers.

Commitment to training, equality

Apprenticeship program

With a growing demand for tech skills, we need a workforce that's up to the task. That's why Pinnacol is proud to support and train the workforce of tomorrow, running one of the largest apprenticeship programs in the state.

Diversity and inclusion efforts

It's critical to build an inclusive environment to keep our best and brightest in Colorado for the long term. Pinnacol is committed to this effort.

The pivot to remote work also gave Pinnacol time to review and identify opportunities to boost diversity and inclusion within the company.

In Colorado, wildfires continued to pose a serious threat. To help the state recover from the brutal fire damage of 2020, Pinnacol donated to Restoring Colorado's Forest Fund

Those funds helped plant over 3,000 new trees on land most severely impacted by wildfires.
