Pinnacol partners with Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance

We’re proud to sponsor the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance’s (DZCA) efforts to protect endangered species and provide the community with an intimate, inspiring and informative firsthand encounter with wildlife.

Like Pinnacol, DZCA has served Colorado for more than 100 years, a legacy we don’t take lightly. That’s why we’re happy to support DZCA as it delights visitors and evolves its mission to meet community needs.

In recognition of Pinnacol’s sponsorship, DZCA named its penguin habitat Pinnacol African Penguin Point.

Pinnacol African Penguin Point: A habitat for happy feet

Located at the zoo’s main entrance, the $1.7 million exhibit features a 10,000-gallon swimming pool, multiple burrows and nesting areas, and nearly 85 linear feet of underwater viewing areas. The state-of-the-art exhibit allows guests to watch up close how penguins walk and learn about the birds from their keepers and other experts.

The habitat provides up-close views of 18 penguins playing and sunbathing — and doing their signature strut.

Surprisingly, the charismatic residents of Pinnacol African Penguin Point can teach us a thing or two about safety. When we walk like a penguin, it’s easier to stay on our feet on slippery surfaces.

Keeping a wild workplace safe for everyone

As Colorado’s largest workers’ compensation provider, covering around 50,000 employers in the state, we’ve seen just about every type of workplace. But few rival DZCA’s iconic status and unique mix of risks.

DZCA is committed to the safety and welfare of its staff, guests and animals, and it has the teams and expertise to keep everyone on zoo property safe. But DZCA can’t do it alone.

Pinnacol’s safety team produced tailored workplace safety content to address DZCA’s diverse range of hazards. The training helps employees improve situational awareness and learn how to prevent the most common injuries.

The DZCA closes only two days a year, and it takes a team to have the zoo ready year-round. Check out how the zoo prepares for a snow event to keep employees and visitors on their feet.

For National Safety Month, Pinnacol and DZCA partnered to highlight potential safety hazards and suggested tips for any workplace.
