DENVER — Sept. 23, 2019 — Leading Colorado-based workers’ compensation insurer Pinnacol Assurance has been named an honoree of The Civic 50 Colorado by CSR Solutions of Colorado and Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service.

The award recognizes Pinnacol as one of the 50 most community-minded companies Colorado determined by an independently administered and scored survey. The Civic 50 Colorado awards, modeled after Points of Light’s national program, provides a standard for superior corporate citizenship and showcases how companies can use their time, skills and resources to impact their communities.

“Our charitable giving programs reflect the work we do as a company — protecting the health and safety of Colorado employers and their employees, helping injured workers get back to work, and promoting a robust business climate and a prepared workforce statewide,” said Edie Sonn, Pinnacol’s vice president of Communications and Public Affairs. “We’re flattered by this recognition and committed to continuing our culture of giving and being a force for good in Colorado.”
Pinnacol’s approach to corporate social responsibility encompasses its scholarship foundation, corporate grantmaking, employee volunteerism and employee giving. In 2018:

  • The Pinnacol Foundation awarded $451,230 in scholarships to 97 children of workers who were killed or seriously injured on the job.
  • Pinnacol awarded more than $550,000 in grants to programs focused on protecting the health and safety of Colorado employees, helping injured workers get back to work and promoting a robust business climate and skilled workforce statewide.
  • Through its Employee Giving Campaign and employee-led volunteering program, Pinnacol in Action, Pinnacol and its employees donated $288,350 and 6,419 hours to local nonprofits and charities.

The Civic 50 Colorado honorees were recognized during The Civic 50 Colorado Awards on Sept. 19, 2019.

The Civic 50 Colorado survey is administered by True Impact, a company specializing in helping organizations maximize and measure their social and business value. The survey instrument consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform the scoring process and is the only evaluation that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities.
