Pinnacol Assurance’s Nationally Recognized Apprenticeship Program Recruiting for its Ninth Cohort

Program offers paid, on-the-job training and education for Colorado's next generation of workers

Denver, CO – March 13, 2025 – Pinnacol Assurance, Colorado’s leading workers’ compensation insurance carrier, is seeking applicants for its sought-after apprenticeship program. This “learn and earn” program, registered with the U.S. Department of Labor, offers young Coloradans a unique opportunity to gain valuable work experience, mentorship, and education while receiving competitive wages.

In partnership with CareerWise Colorado, Pinnacol’s program offers Denver Metro area high school students real-life experience and mentorship coupled with classroom training. Apprentices gain the skills and knowledge necessary for a meaningful professional career in the insurance industry, while simultaneously building a skilled talent pipeline for Pinnacol and contributing to the growth of Colorado’s workforce.

"This program is not just about developing skilled workers; it's about investing in the future of Colorado," said Julie Wilmes, Apprenticeship Program Manager at Pinnacol Assurance. Young people get the tools, experiences and support they need to thrive while they bring fresh perspectives and talent to our organization and the community."

Since its launch in 2017, the program has enrolled 78 apprentices trained by more than 50 coaches and supervisors. Sixteen apprentices have been hired full-time, and nine have been promoted from their entry-level roles.

Pinnacol’s apprenticeship program has received national recognition for its innovative approach to workforce development, earning praise and acting as a national model for institutions such as the U.S. Department of Labor, the White House Office of Management and Budget and Harvard Business School. The program was featured in a PBS12 documentary and most recently in Who Needs College Anymore? and Rethinking College: A Guide to Thriving Without a Degree

"Being an apprentice at Pinnacol has been an incredible experience," said An "Andy" Tran, a Pinnacol apprentice who became a junior coder at age 17. “I’ve learned so much, gained valuable skills, and had the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects. This program has given me a strong foundation for my future career.”

The program is open to high school sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduating seniors, in participating school districts within the Denver metro area. Interested students are encouraged to apply. Applications are due by the end of March.
