Mowa Haile joined Pinnacol’s board of directors in 2021.

Mowa Haile is CEO of Sky Blue Builders, which he founded in 2007 after a tenured career in the technology sector. Sky Blue is a general contractor with annual revenues in the $80 million+. As of March 2024, Sky Blue Builders was acquired by Apis and Heritage Capital, a private equity firm that specializes in converting companies to employee stock ownership plans to help improve the wealth gap by utilizing employee ownership. 

Haile was selected as the Minority Business Person of the Year in 2012 and CEO of the Year finalist in 2015 by Colorado Biz magazine. In 2026, Haile was a recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Business Award. 

Haile grew up in Fort Collins after emigrating from Eritrea in 1981 with his family at the age of nine. He was a state high school track champion and went to Colorado State University on a track scholarship, earning a bachelor’s degree in political science and later getting his MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Haile is the chair-elect for the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and board member of the Denver Zoo. Haile cochaired the City of Denver’s Economic Relief and Recovery Council during the COVID-19 pandemic and was chair of the 2021 GO Bond Executive Committee. He also serves on the Africa Air Service Committee for Denver International Airport to bring the first direct flight from Denver to the continent of Africa.
